Duccio di Buoninsegna, The Descent from the Cross

The man kneeling at right uses tongs to remove the nails from Jesus' feet while St. John and the man on the ladder gently lift him down. The Virgin Mary presses her face to his while St. Mary Magdalene kisses his arm.

The Virgin is dressed as usual in a red robe with a blue mantle. Those colore are reversed in Mary Magdalene's portrait.
